COMBO SETS

How they are made

What you should be looking for:

Rim Moulded

This is the most economic production method O’Brien use. Polyethylene is injected into a mould with steel stringers to add stiffness and strength. This method is used to produce the combo skis we hold in stock. It produces a ski which is more forgiving to learn on with sensational durability to scratches and impact. The limitations, of this production method, are generally only felt by the more competent mono skier. It does produce a heavier ski, which does not have the longitudinal stiffness for many repeated deep water starts. Mono skis rely on a reasonable curve (known as rocker) to assist the way they turn and although O’Briens un-rivalled experience in this production technique allows them to put more rocker than their competition into their skis they are still too flat for the performance skier to get the best out of his gear. For this a composite ski is required. See Slalom Skis

A great looking set of skis at a really good price – These skis have a conventional profile but are ideal for getting any range of adults (young and old) up and having fun. The narrow tunnel and modified rail bevels means the ski will sit comfortably in the water and cross the wake with ease.

Thanks to the extra wide tips, it's easy to get up and stay up on the Amigos. Parabolic shape allows you to turn and cross the wake easier and the white fins help you spot that dropped ski. The size may look short, but these combos pack as much surface area as a traditional pair of skis, and are much easier to maneuver. The Amigos really are your combo friend.

Due to the area in the tip and tail of the ski far less effort is required to waterstart making it a lot easier to learn. The added area allows the skier to be towed at slower speeds allowing beginners and intermediates more time to develop their skills. Being shorter the ‘swing weight’ is less – therefore they are easier, when waterstarting to manoeuvre into the right position.

The profile of the ski around the bindings gives the ski a traditional feel in its turning ability. This ski should never be towed at speeds attaining or exceeding 28mph – The heavy concave which helps promotes lift will cause the ski to begin to ‘float’ and loose traction o the water (Suitable up to body weight of 8 ½ to 9 stones)
